Located in the southwest corner of Citrus County, Sugarmill Woods is only about 70 miles north of Tampa. Perhaps no other development offers the natural beauty of Florida on the grand scale that Sugarmill Woods does. The community of Sugarmill Woods includes Cypress Village, Oak Village, and Southern Woods, all employ the "greenbelt" concept.

Platting of the land was begun in early 1972 and by July of that year the first ground was broken. The greenbelt concept means that each home does not back up to another home, instead there is a natural greenbelt area that separates each home. This preservation of the natural landscape creates a feeling of living in the countryside with all the native vegetation and wildlife, yet minutes from town.

The first 9-hole golf course, two tennis courts and a swimming pool were built in 1975. The second 9-hole golf course was added three years later, and a third nine was finished 1981. A second large pool and a tennis complex were added in Oak Village. And an 18-hole golf course was added to the newest section of Southern Woods in 1995.

Memberships are available and as a member of these clubs you will enjoy the very best of a country club experience, friendly staff, fine dining, golfing, tennis, fitness, swimming, holiday parties, golf tournaments, member outings and so much more! The diverse and growing membership provides a fun and friendly atmosphere where new faces are always welcome. There are memberships to suit almost every lifestyle! Whether you're an avid golfer or just looking to sit by the pool and relax.

The new Shoppes of Sugarmill Woods offers a convenient Publix Grocery, SunTrust Bank, Walgreens Pharmacy, restaurants, and other stores. And the Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park, a quaint little zoo-like environment is close by. Additionally, it is only a quick drive to the Suncoast Parkway toll road which can have you in Tampa in about an hour.

In addition to all the golfing, there are seven rivers that run through the surrounding county including the Crystal River, Homosassa River, Halls River, Chassahowitzka River, Withlacoochee River, Salt River, and St. Martins River. In addition, the county is also home to dozens of springs including King Spring, Homosassa Springs, Chassahowitzka Springs and Three Sisters Springs.

In these clear waters you can fish, swim, boat, snorkel, dive, canoe, kayak and even swim with the manatees. If you would like more information about the spectacular lifestyle and community of Sugarmill Woods and the homes for sale, please contact Melanie today!
